Introducing OSSGolf
Have you ever seen an overpriced golf gadget and thought “I could build that”?
You probably could. That is the whole idea behind OSSGolf.
Golf has a proud DIY history. Long before the big brands, players forged their own irons, turned persimmon heads by hand, and tweaked shafts in the garage until something worked. Tinkering helped build this game. Somewhere along the way, we handed all of it over to a checkout page.
Other hobbies never let that spirit die. People design and build experimental aircraft in their garages and actually fly them. Ham radio operators still solder their own rigs. There is no reason golf training should be any different.
OSSGolf brings it back. Open, free hardware and software for real training aids, documented well enough that you can build them yourself. A tempo trainer that costs tens of dollars in parts instead of the hundred plus you would pay off the shelf. A launch monitor SDK that lets your phone read a device you already own, with no subscription and no extra hardware.
None of it is magic. It is an ESP32, a strip of LEDs, some careful firmware, and honest documentation. The point is that you own it, you understand it, and you can change it.
Good training should not be locked behind a premium price tag. If you have ever wanted to build your own, this is the place.
